Gawler Craton
Discovering Gold - Challenger Area Project
Southern Gold holds four tenements outright and is in joint venture with seven more, giving it the single largest gold tenure holdings surrounding the Challenger Gold Mine.
Dominion Mining's Challenger Gold Mine was discovered in 1995 in the northwestern Archaean portion of the Gawler Craton. The collapse of the gold price in 1997 put a rapid halt on exploration and since the relatively recent commodities revival very few companies have recognised the gold producing potential of the 'Christie Domain'. Southern Gold is one of the few companies with first hand experience in this terrain and we strongly believe that more mines will be discovered in there.
Sediments form extensive cover over the craton, easily concealing large ore bodies and posing great challenges for exploration. The directorship and exploration team at Southern Gold have a great collective experience in the exploration of South Australia, giving us that necessary edge to find these ore bodies.
Renewable Energy - Roxby Geothermal Project
Southern Gold's interest in geothermal energy potential of the Stuart Shelf arose from the awareness of the usefulness of data collected during the Lake Torrens Iron Oxide Copper Gold exploration during 2007.
The package of 22 geothermal tenements form a contiguous belt of ground that covers hot Gawler Craton rocks that have been kept warm by a 'blanket' of younger flat lying Adelaidean sediments.
